Teacher Retention and Development

Marfa is a very special place, but since it is a small, rural community, it is sometimes difficult to retain teachers. MEF and MISD are collaborating to keep our teachers here in Marfa. Administrative support of teacher growth is very important. We have started a teacher book study, which one of our new teachers is facilitating now. In addition, we are installing new exercise equipment, a perk that not all schools have, and which helps teachers to take a break, clear their heads, and stay in shape. MEF also supports teacher attendance at the statewide Montessori Conference, so teachers can stay up to date on all the latest techniques in Montessori education.
